Dr. Temesgen Fufa joined NHGRI's Extramural Research Program as a program director in 2022. He has a long-standing interest to understand how gene regulation plays a role in development and human disease. Dr. Fufa is involved with directing a portfolio of grants focused on the application of multiomics technologies in health and disease and technology development for protein sequencing. 

Before joining the NHGRI, Dr. Fufa was a staff scientist at the National Eye Institute where he led research focused on combining the innovative techniques of stem cell differentiation, functional genomics and multi-omics to elucidate the mechanisms of developmental diseases.

Dr. Fufa received a M.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a major in Biotechnology from Georgetown University School of Medicine, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Howard University College of Medicine upon completion of his dissertation research at the National Cancer Institute in the Laboratory of Receptor Biology and Gene Expression. Dr. Fufa completed his postdoctoral research at NHGRI in the Genetic Disease Research Branch.
