Coming to a City Near You
Our Fireside Chats began during the pandemic as a way to stay connected. We were intentional about creating an informal space where conversations that were often stigmatized or overlooked could happen openly and without judgment, helping make these topics feel less isolating and more normalized.
Now that we are gathering in person, SC RED partners with community-based organizations to co-host Fireside Chats in cities across the country.
Reproductive and maternal health is all-encompassing—more than having children and not limited to women. Fireside Chats include peer-led presentations and guided conversations on topics such as pregnancy, contraception, fertility, and other reproductive health experiences that are not always openly discussed.
These sessions help connect lived experience to understanding—for example, a young girl may remember feeling isolated in a locker room because her body hadn’t developed like her peers’, without realizing it could be linked to delayed puberty, a common but under-discussed aspect of sickle cell disease. Fireside Chats create space for learning, reflection, and understanding what this information means for real life.
